Important notices
The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 -17:00. Last entry: 16:00.
For guided tours a reservation is necessary. Further information: 0049 5525-95 99 064/info@kloster-walkenried.de.
The chapter house of the monastery is still in use today for church services. Because of these services and also because of the Walkenried Cloister Concerts and other events, there are sometimes limitations on visiting the chapter house, cloisters and the cloister gardens.
Walkenried Monastery is a historic building in which the familiar standards of modern buildings cannot be expected. Therefore, please note that low beams and ceiling joists in some rooms require you to take care.
Several areas of the monastery cannot be heated and are as cool as they were in the time of the monks - also in summer.
Not all areas of the museum have been adapted to be suitable for wheelchairs. In particular, the exhibition on the upper floor is not accessible via a lift. The signposted round tour includes stairs, uneven areas and door steps.
Nevertheless, with a wheelchair or walking frame you can explore the cloisters and the adjoining rooms as well as the part of the exhibition that is on the ground floor. Our guided tour
"Short visit to the house of Cistercians - without many stairs"
is designed to be suitable for this.
Unfortunately, there are no handicapped-accessible toilets available.
If you have any questions, our visitor service will be pleased to help you.
It is not allowed to drink or eat within the area of the Cloister including the museum and the exhibition.
Smoking is forbidden.
Dogs are not allowed in the museum.
In the outdoor areas and in the museum (cloisters and exhibition) photography and filming without a tripod or flash, exclusively for private purposes, is allowed. Please note that the uploading of pictures and videos in social networks is not an exclusively private use.
All photography and filming for non-private purposes on the property of the monastery requires previous written agreement.
When visiting the museum, pushchairs and prams can be left in the area of the visitor service.
Guided tours may only be carried out by trained museum guides of the CistercianMuseum, who have been deployed by the visitor service of the CistercianMuseum.
Other persons are not allowed to conduct guided tours on the premises of the CistercianMuseum, also during the Night of the Open Door or the Monastery Market.
A binding registration for a group guided tour must be received by the visitor service at least four days before the date of the tour.
